Empowering customers to save electricity

The Electronics Take Back Pilot — a collaboration with IESO, Best Buy and Toronto Hydro — encouraged residential customers in Toronto to collect an electricity-saving Advanced Power Strip (APS) in exchange for decommissioning their dated, inefficient electronics. Approximately 10,000 Toronto Hydro customers who completed a short survey received a free APS valued at $100.

Using social media marketing, The Electronics Take Back Pilot was a successful avenue to educate Toronto Hydro customers on phantom power, energy conservation behaviours and the benefits of trading in older, less efficient electronics. Distributing the Advanced Power Strips helped target plug load and reduce standby-energy losses.
